Mural on Third Street

This mural is located on the South side of Third Street, just West of Keowee (Across from Atta Girl Studios) in Dayton, OH.

Roughed onto the wall. I had done the drawing to scale, but the space was not the same dimensions, so I just winged it.

Blocking in color. That beast was huge!

First day's progress.

Day two, must establish her personality. I wanted the farmer to be earthy and welcoming.

It was tough to get the lines to flow nicely, since they had to be done in sections and around the ladder.

End of Day two. Roughed in my name in case anyone wanted to know. More work to go...

Mural at Garden Station

Starting on October 9, 2010, Amy Kollar Anderson began a mural at The Garden Station, located at the corner of 4th and Wayne in Downtown Dayton, Ohio. The space measures approx. 8'x11'x13' and should be completed before November 1, 2010, unless weather prohibits.

The original sketch for the space.

I begin blocking in the design, using a grid to get the basic layout, but I am not concerned with making it match the sketch exactly.

Basic layout is up.

I begin blocking in the background. The patched areas are where rebar was exposed. Thank you Garden Station volunteers for patching and sealing the wall for me!

Basic sky is in. Still considering a bird or two.

Hair and berry plants started.

Some detailing in the hair and started the leaves.

I want the leaves to all be different greens, and I will go back and add some more details to them. At this point, I have about 8 hours into the project and one incredibly achy body.

Getting ready to start her skin.

Liking the results. I was hoping for a woman that seemed a mixture of many women. The keeper of the garden.

Started her dress. Wanted the colors to tie into the mural to the right, created by Heather Lea Reid and Etch, and the future sunflower mosaic that will be installed on a wall to the left of the deck.

Detailed the dress and started on the leaves.

Brightened her skin to separate it more from the leaves.

View of the space. I believe they are going to ask the city to paint the column on the right and patch paint the column on the left. I may add some work after that is done, like extending the leaves into that space or something. I will also get out to take some better shots and details. Total time, approx. 17 hours. Hope you can make it out to the Garden Station to see it in person. They are always looking for helping hands to have some fun and get dirty in the mud.
