The hoplite was a direct inspiration from the Gem Dragon that resides above the Alchemist Periodic Chart. My husband mentioned there should be a knight to go with the dragon. I was intrigued by this idea, but wanted to do some research on various types of warriors. When I came across the ancient Greek Hoplite, I was seriously geeking out! What? There is a warrior with “hop” (a main ingredient in many beers) in their name and the armor is super badass?!? I knew our Hoplite would be covered in hops and have a skull for a face (a nod to our logo). The drawing was created in Procreate on an iPad.
