This painting is about the struggle I constantly feel between whether I am working or playing, because the line is very fine! The piece started with this experimental grid of washi tape, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do with the panel beyond that point. I had created the playful dog sketch with another panel background in mind, but then I thought the grid panel should have a character wearing a plaid sweater to play off the background and the two ideas came together. Creating the sweater was a bit of a challenge. I thought I could curve the hair tinsel around the body, but it would not hold in place, so I ended up having to cut these tiny sections and hand place them to appear to be curving. I am very happy with the results!
