This painting was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Every year I look forward to the return of the Grackles to our yard. Forget Robins, Grackles are the true sign of spring! The Grackles arrived about the same time news of the spreading virus took over every channel of communication. Most discussions evolved around the particulates and how they were spread, what they could exist on and for how long. I began to envision these particles everywhere and on everything.
From the above version, I used a different teal to make the feathers more vibrant. I wanted the body to have more definition so I segmented it with the metallic green and red to better reflect the colors of the Grackle. Changed the shape of the head and beak, then added a brighter cloud to the background to connect the haze better. It kinda looked like the bird tooted a purple cloud and I was not happy with that look. :)
