Studio Images: A Lure October 20, 2019 Amy Kollar Anderson Acrylic, pouring medium and mica on panel : 16” x 20” : 2019 : Print : Collection of R. & C. Riordan Started with an abstract mashing of brushstrokes and copper foil. Layer of Pouring Medium and more brushstrokes. Not sure what the painting will be at this point, but it makes me think water. Decided to do a mermaid painting. Working on digital sketch. Printed out sketch to scale. Took four pieces of paper. Used Saral Transfer Paper. Detail of sketch on panel. Layer of Liquitex Gloss Medium. Started monochrome underpainting. Added a few details in teals and whites. Mermaid scale shimmers. Starting sea creature. Was thinking his skin would be similar to a seal. Transfer paper to create some small floating fish details. Giving him some spots. Feeling good about the progress. Added one more layer of Pouring Medium... ...and somehow it pulled the underdrawing back out! WTW‽ Another detail of the underdrawing showing through the paint. Pissed! So I have to repaint several areas to push it back down. Adding pops of orange, but changed my mind. Too tacky. Detail of finished painting. Detail of finished painting showing the sea creature’s cute tongue! Detail of finished painting showing signature and layers of paint. The finished painting.
