At Peace Massage and Wellness Center will host the “Sangfroid Invitation Exhibition,” curated by Amy Kollar Anderson, from September 11 – October 29, 2010, with an opening reception on September 11, from 4-7pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Gallery Coordinator for the City of Kettering’s Rosewood Gallery and local artist, Amy Kollar Anderson, has invited a collection of local artists to show their work at the At Peace Massage & Wellness Center. The title of the show is “Sangfroid” (pronounced (sä –frwä), and the focus is images that illustrate “coolness, composure and calmness.” The interpretation of the theme is collaboration between the artists and Amy Kollar Anderson, who selected much of the work from options presented by the artists. “Don’t expect this to be a quiet show,” says Amy Kollar Anderson. “The body of work still includes a lot of vibrant color and exciting movement. Sometimes calmness and composure are found in the most chaotic moments. I wanted the show to include more literal interpretations of the theme as well as a few that show calmness before, during and after extreme moments. Trees are a repeated symbol in the show because I feel they epitomize the concept of Sangfroid with their ability to endure external pressures from a variety of sources.”

At Peace Massage & Wellness Center, a new Massage and Wellness Center in the Vandalia-Butler community, in Dayton, Ohio, intends to be a place of community by hosting local artist’s work in their facility. At Peace Massage & Wellness Center is committed to creating a relaxing atmosphere that is conducive to renewing yourself–mind, body, and soul. The facility includes a classroom space available for workshops, meetings, or events. They also use the classroom for Yoga, workshops, and for educational classes, including CEU classes. All therapists practicing in this establishment are highly skilled; state licensed and nationally certified individuals who hold themselves to a high standard of ethics and professionalism.

Participating Artists: Erin Holscher Almazan, Pam Adams, Amy Kollar Anderson, Laine Bachman, Julie Beyer, Bridgette Bogle, Matt Burgy, Christina Dendy, Amy Dockum, Diane Dover, Peter Frederick, Joyce Genari, Scott Gibbs, Terry Glass, Cathy Jeffers, Rick Jurus, Jean Koeller, Richard Malogorski, Ryan Mccullough, Trish McKinney, Marsha Pippenger, Mike Puckett, Sarah Puckett, Loretta Puncer, Heather Lea Reid, Francis Schanberger, Rose Schultz, Andrea Starkey, Doug Taylor, Lesley Walton, Terry Welker

At Peace Massage and Wellness Center is located at 8605 North Dixie Drive – Suite D, Dayton, OH 45414. For more information, call (937) 454-0100 or www.atpeacewellness.com

Artists, area residents, and Daybreak youth have created over 200 6-by-6 inch canvases that will be brought together as a colorful mosaic and displayed at the Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC) gallery August 31 to September 11. The gallery is located in downtown Dayton at 118 North Jefferson Street.

The canvases have been secretly numbered, and the numbers are being sold for $25. Proceeds will be split equally between Daybreak and DVAC.

You can own one of the canvases by purchasing a number. The fun twist is that you won’t know which canvas has your number until you receive it at the end of the project.

Numbers are on sale now through November 5. Contact DVAC at 937-224-3822 or dvac@daytonvisualarts.org to purchase your ticket or for more information. If you have a favorite or lucky number, buy it now before someone else does!

The Chrysalis Project is supported by the Genesis Monarch Fund at The Dayton Foundation.

SANGFROID: I am curating a show, Sangfroid, scheduled to open Sept. 11. Check out the details on my site.

NEW: I took a brief break after installing my show at Gallery 510, cleaned the studio, swapped some closet contents, and got right back to the easel. Three new pieces in the works, including another time lapse movie called Invidia. Other pieces are Crude and Intoxicating.

Thank you for staying connected!

“I would like my pictures to look as if a human being had passed between them, like a snail leaving its trail of the human presence… as a snail leaves its slime.” ~Francis Bacon

“Painting is, literally, the primal impulse to mark. It’s such a clear way of formulating what’s inside one’s head; it’s the most direct way of communication.” ~Anna Bialobroda

“Conversation in real life is full of half-finished sentences and overlapping talk. Why shouldn’t painting be too?” ~Edgar Degas
